Her photographic installations with images of protesting women created a stir at a time when photography was not respected as an art. But artist and activist Sheba Chhachhi continues her fight through her camera.

When you started your career as an artist, photography was not accepted as a serious art form. Did you have to fight to establish yourself?

I was caught between artists and photographers, who were mostly producing documentaries. Artists were skeptical about my photographic installations being labeled as art whereas, photographers were curious about my idea to offer my subjects a choice. Photographers document reality but the way they see it.
